by littleones.com, on October 6th, 2009 Veggie Tales: Saint Nicholas – A Story of Joyful Giving
The Veggie's have done it again! Just in time for the holidays, they've given us a delightful new Christmas adventure that once again teaches children about the meaning of Christmas. When Laura Carrot's Dad loses his job on Christmas Eve, Bob the Tomato tells Junior Asparagus and his friends a touching story about giving. The story begins in Ancient Greece with a little boy named Nicholas (Nicky the Pepper.) Nicholas, a boy who has everything, searches to find the key to happiness and in the process, discovers why and how we give to others. As a result, Nicholas begins his mission to help people in secret and changes Christmas forever. This DVD also contains the featured music video "Give This Christmas Away."

WEEK #1:
TOYS FOR LITTLE FINGERS (TODDLER-PRESCHOOL)
The Little Ones "Twelve Weeks Before Christmas" Holiday Toy Series is designed to help parents and grandparents make smart choices by featuring outstanding/award winning "toys that teach," accompanied by reviews which highlight and explain the educational benefits and specific skills children receive from these types of toys.
Little Fingers need some extra strengthening and practice when it comes to developing fine motor skills. Fine motor or dexterity skills refer to your child's ability to use his or her finger/hand muscles properly so that he or she can successfully manipulate basic tools and manage small pieces. For example, children use basic fine motor skills when completing daily tasks such as holding a pencil, drawing, writing, cutting with scissors or even tying a shoelace. Fine motor skills also include hand/eye coordination. Daily practice of dexterity skills will strengthen the finger motions and accuracy needed to accomplish these basic, and eventually more challenging tasks. Choosing toys that develop and improve your child's hand/eye coordination and dexterity skills will provide an enjoyable fine motor workout for little fingers. The following toys encourage the development of these skills by requiring children to manipulate small pieces (grasping, pushing, pulling, lacing, stacking, rotating etc.) These types of toys can be commonly found in preschool classrooms and even occupational therapy settings. Toddlers and preschoolers love playing with these types of toys, and don't even realize that they are developing important fine motor skills in the process.

It all started sometime after the birth of our first child. I noticed piles of papers popping up all over our tiny apartment. I had heard stories of living quarters being filled with baby equipment, supplies and toys, but I never heard much about what I term "the paperwork explosion." I quickly learned that babies and children come with a lot of paperwork! It starts out with receipts for all of those darling baby purchases, next comes the arrival of your little one accompanied by a host of hospital and insurance bills, next comes pediatrician and immunization records…and thus it continues until your child enters school. At that point, the phenomenon called the "paper explosion" begins to pick up speed, sort of like a snowball rolling down a hill until it hits you like an avalanche!
Shortly after our twins entered school, I learned that having 3 children in school creates even more paperwork than I could imagine. By the time our fourth and fifth child were born, I realized that I was heading into a downward spiral. Losing bills, permission slips and important school notices was becoming more frequent and disturbing. Now, I had always considered myself to be an organized person, but this parenting challenge clearly put me over the edge. With practically every horizontal surface in our house covered with piles of paperwork, I realized that I had to somehow come up with a creative solution.
